After the luminous alphabets and the Monkey, Mouse and Mushroom Lamps designed by Marcantonio, Seletti still focuses on lighting with a much less profane subject: St Peter’s Dome. Cupolone (its name in Roman dialect) is a suspension lamp in resin available in two colors, white and anthracite-gold, designed by Alessandra Mantovani and Eleonora Barbareschi of AMeBE studio, already protagonists of the last Milano Design Week with the chair Superufficio inspired by Gio Ponti..
A first 15 pieces limited edition, “Cupola, e luce fu!” was presented by the designers at Fuorisalone 2016, but it was a hand painted sculpture illuminated by a sophisticated system of LED lights adjustable via iPhone or iPad.
Cupolone, on the other hand, declares its pop nature starting from its name, that doesn’t betray the brand’s democratic essence and pays homage to the energy of popular culture. As the art director Stefano Seletti explains: “Cupolone is not just a design project, but a love object", representing a complete tribute to our heritage, exclusive and sought, yet accessible and universal.
It is the second tribute to Italy after 2014's Milan's middle finger by Maurizio Cattelan turned into a carillon.
Italy by Seletti: from Milan’s middle finger to Rome’s Cupolone
After Milan’s Piazza Affari’s middle finger turned into a small carillon, Seletti transforms another italian icon in a pop furnishing: St Peter’s dome designed by AMeBE.
