Stardust, an architecture studio founded in 2011 in Bucharest by Anca Cioarec and Brîndușa Tudor and specialized in “poetic design”, designed the interiors of Meşteshukar ButiQ’s, a famous Romanian handicraft shop.
The starting point of the project – called The Loom – was the memory of crafts and domestic know-hows: the grandparents who weaved the baskets, kneaded the flour, spinned the wool. When we talk about ancient crafts, we inevitably talk about memories, the joy of recovering them or the fear of losing them. Since these are mostly tactile and concrete, related to the use of fingers and hands, Stardust has worked above all on what the body remembers in order to recreate a workshop rather than a shop, an experiential environment that invites you to touch, slide your fingers and work.
The Loom turns in a place of apprenticeship, filled with stools and work tools that are displayed, supported or placed in flexible structures in linden wood supported by perforated flaute-columns in which to insert the modular shelves. At the center, a large table acts as a display or worktop, while the window with its support point serves as a showcase or as a refreshment corner to have a coffee. In this “tactile home”, every piece of furniture is designed to be moved and quickly adapted to new contexts: exhibitions, events, festivals and temporary installations according to the pop-up logic.
In Romania a local crafts shop turns into a tactile house
Stardust architects turns a local craft store into a pop-up art shop that invites the body to remember the most ancient gestures.
