Tom Dixon: back to basics

British designer Tom Dixon extends his collection of lights and furniture.

The new Utility collection by Tom Dixon takes a utilitarian approach, using simple materials to make products that go back to basics and are robust and hardwearing, “which feels appropriate right now”. Inspired by the “no-nonsense approach of industrial artefacts and military engineering, science and mathematics” the British designer has come up with a collection of objects with an industrial feel: pressed glass lighting, stone tables and vitreous enamel occasional tables. They are the result of a meticulous exploration of simple forms as well as the application of industrial processes and tough materials like iron, marble, granite and copper.
