Tomás Maldonado
An exhibition at Triennale pays homage to the art of Tomás Maldonado, the philopher of industrial design.
Tomás Maldonado has a long-standing relationship with the Milan Triennale. Adviser until 1999, he oversaw the passage to Fondazione, and last year the artist and philosopher of industrial design decided to donate his architecture and design archive (over 1,500 books and 600 volumes of magazines) to the Milanese institution. So it comes as no surprise that the Triennale has returned the favour by holding an exhibition (from 19 February to 5 April) on his multifaceted activity as an artist (born in Buenos Aires in 1922, Maldonado was one of the protagonists of the arte concreta movement), designer, theorist of industrial design, teacher (he taught at the Ulm School for 13 years) and scholar of technical culture and communication. As well as a chance to become acquainted with a large part of Maldonado’s artistic work, the exhibition also presents photographs, objects and original documents relating to projects carried out with Ettore Sottsass for Olivetti and his work on the corporate identity of Gruppo Rinascente.
