Winners of the seven categories in
the first edition of this award were
announced on March 11.
Given to the best international
designs of the year in the categories
of Architecture, Fashion,
Furniture, Graphics, Interactive,
Product and Transport,
the award is organised by the
London Design Museum in
partnership with Brit Insurance.
An exhibition at the museum,
running until April 27, accompanies
the initiative with a display
of the 100 short-listed designs.
Some of the winning designs
adopted a particularly original
approach, such as Martino
Gamper’s 100 Chairs in 100
Days, which won the Furniture
category with this refl ection on
the saturation of the classic
chair in contemporary design,
making 100 chairs with existing
pieces; and Yves Béhar’s One
Laptop Per Child, part of a nonprofi
t programme by MIT, a small
computer designed for children
in developing countries. Silvia Monaco
