An exhibition that manages to illustrate the multiple fields of his activity, all of them, from design to architecture, from research into materials (not just tubular steel or plywood) to the design of innovative engineering structures. The exhibition that the Vitra Design Museum has dedicated to Marcel Breuer (1902-1981) after showing at Weil am Rhein (in Germany) is now coming to Italy.
Divided into subject groups (house, spaces and volumes), the exhibition presents almost all the furniture designed by the Hungarian architect whilst his extensive architectural work is described through twelve models created specially for the retrospective: from the Whitney – perhaps his most famous building – to the Central Public Library in Atlanta, the last to be built. Without forgetting the single family houses (according to contemporary critics, Breuer’s most important contribution to architecture), presented through drawings, sketches and archive photos. E.S.
