There is no doubt about it, the most popular colour is silver. In Europe and America as well as in Asia; from luxury cars to sports cars and smaller models, in other words a success all round. This information comes to us via the annual survey “DuPont Global Color Popularity Survey” carried out by DuPont who for over fifty years have been studying consumer preferences in order to make predictions for the years to come.
“Sophisticated automotive styling cues, such as the color silver, express the technology driven lifestyles of today’s consumers,” said Robert S. Daily, color styling and marketing manager for DuPont Herberts Automotive Systems, the OEM coatings unit of DuPont Automotive. Alongside silver are other neutral colours: white, grey and black.
There is also a return to strong colours such as yellow – which did not bring much success for the Volkswagen Beetle for some time – resulted among the 12 colours most requested in the last two years and seems set to increase also in 2002. Predictions for the next few years? A steady rise in popularity for neutral colours (silver, white, black and grey) together with an increase for gold-yellow and blue.
