To get an idea of how much Volvo has linked its image with safety, it’s enough one to quote one statistic: 120 people work in the company’s Safety Center in Göteborg, who from now onwards will be placing its experience at the service of the whole of the Ford group. Director of these 120 specialists since 1991 is 46 year old Swede, Stefan Nilsson, who for his work with Volvo was presented with the Award for Safety Engineering Excellence by the American government. To him falls the not so easy task of taking up new car safety standards which already today seem to be at the height of protection for passengers. “Over the next two or three years we will see a great deal of innovation in the field of active safety, with the anti-collision system, assisted by radar and cameras and carried out with the automatic control of the speed and braking system. We are also trying to simplify communication on board the vehicle. Today too much information arrives. We don’t want to reduce it but we want only that which is useful to be visualised ”.
