A magical art trail to rediscover the Dolomites

The exhibition "Pupille", curated by Fulvio Chimento and Carlotta Minarelli, is part of the second edition of the art festival "Sentieri d'arte" in Cortina d'Ampezzo (Italy). A public art project involving the artists Benni Bosetto, Cuoghi Corsello, Dado and Maurizio Mercuri to explore the Pian de ra Spines path. The project is promoted by Associazione Controcorrente, Regole d'Ampezzo, Liceo Artistico di Cortina, in collaboration with Quiqueg creative agency (Milan) and with the patronage of the Municipality of Cortina d'Ampezzo. The exhibition will end on 3 November, but the works will be permanently on display. 

"Pupille" is a dreamlike journey, a fairy-tale experience that accompanies visitors in their rediscovery of the natural landscape of Cortina d'Ampezzo by means of a magical narrative outlining a vast heritage of fairy tales and legends linked to the history of the Dolomites. The site-specific works feature references to childhood and to the natural world; the results is an unfiltered mediation experienced through the "Pupils", point of contact between the external and internal worlds, gateway to the unconscious, and a key to access the artist's attentive subjectivity. 

Benni Bosetto's sound installation releases into the environment an a cappella song performed by the artist herself and composed by the writer Clara Mazzoleni. A testimony to the ontological relationship that binds man and nature, voice and body. Cuoghi Corsello present in the wood interventions inspired by the topoi of fantasy literature, which will drive the visitor off the main path, in search of a deeper connection with the spirits of nature. Dado's "Magic Tree" was created by painting in gold one of the trees in the forest crossed by the Pian de ra Spines path. An intervention that brings the world of fairy tales into the forest, an "enchanted element" that stands out and yet coexists with the natural elements that surround it. The legend of "King Laurino's Rose Garden" comes back to life in Maurizio Mercuri's installation, inspired by the phenomenon of the alpenglow: every day, at dawn and at dusk, the sun's rays colour in pink the peaks of the Dolomites. Mercuri uses glass drops as an attractive source of light, to capture and "preserve" its brightness. Visitors are encouraged to write fairy tales inspired by the works and send them to the e-mail address of the Associazione Controcorrente, which will select the most interesting ones to be included in the exhibition catalogue.
