Painting, sculpture, architecture, syntax: everything is wisely mixed in the practice of Viennese artist Svenja Deininger, with her exhibition “Two thoughts” at the Pattern Room of the Collezione Maramotti Collection in Reggio Emilia.
Her works are conceived as a single “sentence”, in which each one represents a fundamental element. The shapes and colors are combined together through a spatial balance given also by the texture of the applied materials. Deininger mingles chalk, marble powder or glue with oil colors to create porous surfaces, in relief, thus capturing the natural light (the only one she works with). She operates both on the front and on the back of her canvases.
For this project, Deininger was inspired by the Architectural Compositions of Polish avant-garde Władysław Strzemiński. Four of his artworks are showcased in the exhibition, loaned from the Muzeum Sztuki of Łódź.
