The work Concrete Vessel by Southern California-based artist Amir Zaki, includes a series of photographs representing the unusual architecture of skateparks. The pictures are part of the “Empty Vessel” exhibition held at Frank M. Doyle Arts Pavilion, that is part of the Orange Coast College. Captured in California, the shots show curved concrete walls, ondulating shapes and tunnels where skateboarders are used to move. The skateparks appear at dawn as an empty landscape where skateboarders are not involved. The artist’s work can be considered an extension of New Topographic photographers from the 1970s who were focused on the suburban and exurban environments throughout Southern California. The exhibition “Empty Vessel – Amir Zaki” will be on show until December 5th.
