Over 120 paintings, drawings and sculptures from the early sixties up until the death of the artist in 1997 have been brought together for the first major exhibition organised in Miami on Lichtenstein. The central theme of the exhibition is how the artist conceived and perceived space.
With the use of Benday dots – a technique used by cartoonists to create shadow – which he applied in his own particular way to his large coloured canvases, he was able to create a three dimensional effect. Some of the pieces were then made on perforated steel sheets, adding a further sense of depth to the dots in the paintings.
