Making home in 24 square metres, in Barcelona

Clearing a small flat in the Grácia neighbourhood from all partitions, Parramon + Tahull valorized floors and vaulted ceilings to create intimate spaces through essential furniture.

Parramon + Tahull Arquitectes have been working on a small apartment in Gracia, a neighborhood in Barcelona, within a limited budget: the interior walls were demolished, while the characteristic flooring was preserved throughout the home, and the Catalan vaulted ceiling was left exposed. This approach freed the apartment’s 24 square meters, while custom-made furniture redesigns the layout.

A birch plywood wardrobe creates niches and divides the sleeping area from the living room. The bed occupies one corner of the house, placed in a raised section compared to the rest of the apartment, giving the bedroom a sense of intimacy.
At the same time, custom seating, also made from plywood, was designed to soften the diagonal line of a wall, fitting the space with a light touch.

The warm tone of wood is echoed in the window frames and shutters, while white is used for the kitchen furniture and all the fixtures, enhancing the room's brightness. Finally, the stoneware wall tiles in the bathroom are complemented by a small storage unit built into the false wall.

With just a few elements, the project succeeds in enhancing the existing materials and the shapes of the apartment. Moreover, the furnishings manage to distribute the various functions, creating an intimate and airy atmosphere in every corner of the space.
