Winery Přátelé Pavlova (Friends of Pavlov) is located in the hills of Pálava, in the Czech Republic, taking its shape from the surrounding vineyards and the traditional farms that punctuate the region.
The building, distributed over 720 square metres and divided into two levels, integrates architecture and natural elements: along with the choice of using local materials – those that are strictly necessary, avoiding excess – canopies, shading and a water collection system were developed, also guaranteeing natural ventilation for the interiors. The architecture, designed by Atelier Štěpán, is partially built into the ground and is characterised and follows the shape of the site with its pitched roof and the sloped openings.
The 6x6 metre module subdivides the plan determining the general layout of the project, shaped by load-bearing areas in concrete – the walls and the series of pillars, some visible from the outside – and non-load-bearing areas in wood – some surfaces, the fixtures and the roof. Cast-in-place concrete pillars with added limestone support the roof, which is distinguished by a series of perpendicularly arranged elements.
The interior spaces, where wood and concrete predominate, contain wine production and storage rooms, and a wine tasting room, where large windows invite guests to enjoy the surrounding landscape and vineyards.
