The house designed by Belgian studio Cas Architecten in Beersel, just a few kilometres from Brussels in the Flanders region, replaces an old, dilapidated pre-existing building. The architects make use of all the volume allowed to give shape to a house capable of perfectly responding to the lifestyle and needs of the family; a secluded area for teenage children, a fitness area with swimming pool for the father, a passionate triathlete, and a covered terrace for the mother who enjoys living outdoor. "After a year and a half, we still have that holiday feeling in our house," the family says. The house is characterized by an insistent horizontality and, raised from the ground through a platform, looks like floating on the green, undulating mantle of the garden. The Z-shape in plan and the continuous glazed outer skin protected by a projecting flat roof in correspondence with the living area, create a sequence of interior spaces without interruption with the garden, whereas the reinforced concrete perimeter walls are combined with the natural texture of the wood in correspendence with the sleeping area. The natural stone floor, the custom-made walnut wood furniture and the white plaster on walls, ceilings and sometimes even doors and wardrobes, create a warm, natural atmosphere, while other special elements such as the vintage leather sofa and the Moroccan carpet in the living room reflect the personality of the guests.
