The apocryphal version of a Roman basilica: in the words of the architecture firm CRUX, this could be the metaphor that best defines the identity of Rey House, a single-family residence built in Requena, a small town in the hinterland of Valencia. Elastic container adapting to the needs of an expanded hospitality as well as to the natural changes that affect the lives of the inhabitants, the three-storey building structures its plan on the tripartition between a large nave and two side wings.
Rei House, the three-aisle plan of a single-family residence
The house designed by CRUX arquitectos in the province of Valencia is inspired by the model of the Roman basilica as reference for architectural flexibility, converting the three naves into a device that adapts to the needs of its inhabitants.

In the central space, whose volume is identified by tubular metal columns and a concrete vault left exposed, activities related to socialization, food consumption and sleep come to life, while the side wings are equipped with functional furniture such as the kitchen block or containers. Sliding curtains can be used to shield the space, which in any case lacks a specific identity vocation, overcoming the concept of clear room categorization also thanks to a few flexible furnishings.
On the façade, two symmetrical meshes inspired by traditional local architecture combine the functions of a light filter, which changes throughout the day with a succession of play of smooth shadows, and of visual shelter from the outside. From the inside, on the other hand, the opening onto the surrounding landscape enjoys continuous visual contact with the vegetation, while a natural ventilation system makes it possible to contain the need for temperature cooling systems.
