A square redesigned to encourage social distancing

In the square of the Florentine town of Vicchio, the Caret Studio architectural firm is experimenting with the installation of a new temporary square design, in view of the social distancing we have to face, also in the public space. Tuscany, according to the latest regulations, has identified the measure of 1.80 m as the distance to be maintained between people to limit contagion.

The Florentine studio, founded by architects Matteo Chelazzi, Federico Cheloni and Giulio Margheri, has designed a series of increasing squares on the pavement of town square, as you reach the statue in the centre of the public space. This pattern should help citizens to immediately understand the distance to be kept, and educate them to a new use of the plaza. The strategy is thought of as potentially extensible also in other public areas of the city, creating a temporary infrastructure for the new sociality we will all have to get used to.
