Inspired by the book Nature Cure by Richard Mabey, the artists Heather and Ivan Morison from Studio Morison design a structure, which works, according to their intention, on the relationship between nature and mental health.
A huge straw hut to meditate in the English countryside
With wood and straw found on site studio Morison creates a rest area in close relationship with nature.

This small pavilion was commissioned by the Wysing Arts Centre as part of a larger regional programme New Geographies, with the intention of bringing art to unexpected places in Eastern England, in this case in the Wicken Fen nature reserve in Cambridgeshire The typology is a reinterpretation of the old haystacks that once marked the English countryside. The wooden ribs were built directly by the two artists using wood from the artists’ own forest, while the casing is made from local straw worked by a master thatcher who worked the hayrick of this site.
The deep cuts of the entrances and the central oculus of the roof in this sculptural structure create a circular space that frames the surrounding landscape, making visitors linger with their gaze towards the sky, swathed in a warm atmosphere mitigated by straw.
