Dillon617: a 49-unit housing to face high population density in Los Angeles

Designed by LOHA architects, the building combines two different housing typologies in Silver Lake’s growing community, providing communal green spaces and terraces.

Dillon617 is a housing project made of 49 units located in Silver Lake, Los Angeles, and designed by LOHA (Lorcan O’Herlihy Architects). To face the US city’s increasing population, Dillon617 mixes together multi-unit housing and houses, providing green areas and terraces for socialization. The building combines private and communal spaces in a growing urban community by connecting two long bars, one of them slightly bended towards the exterior to create a paseo. The blocks are connected by an external walkway that also provides meeting spaces.

Stepped terraces on the south side, served as semi-private spaces, have been obtained by punching the central pinch point. A dark metallic cladding envelopes the building, in a chromatic contrast with the white corridor, while perforated screens cover the block of the stairs.
