Blue and Concrete is a renovated apartment located in the South of Milan, linking together a three-room apartment on the ground floor and a studio with terrace on the first floor. Designed by DVDV Studio Architects, the project is a connection of volumes developed on a total of 120 sqm, made of different heights and interconnections that contribute to make a more dynamic space, in a play of different lights and textures. An iron footbridge, made of perforated metal sheets located at 2.20 meters, represents the axis of symmetry of the entire apartment together with the staircase, that leads to the metallic mezzanine and to the bedroom on the first floor. Divided in two parts, the staircase has a concrete podium in the first half and iron cantilevered quadrangular profiles in the second one on the top. A painted-blue studio on the ground floor provides a calm environment, while glazed vertical partitions let light flow or provide privacy with draperies. On the ground floor the kitchen designed by Vico Magistretti includes perforated panels in aluminum and wood recalling the texture used in the footbridge. Fresnel and Atollo lamps and custom designed furniture are placed in the rest of the Milanese apartment, such as Bau – a dining table with a black walnut top – and Zag – the bended brass sheet lamp suspended in the kitchen.
