The 40 projects were whittled down from a longlist of 383 by a jury comprising architects Dorte Mandrup, George Arbid, Kamiel Klaasse, María Langarita, Austrian cultural theorist Angelika Fitz, and publicists Ștefan Ghenciulescu and Frank McDonald. The biennial Mies van der Rohe Award recognises the best new European architecture.
