House in Asahiku

Built in Osaka in a residential area with traditional row-houses, House in Asahiku, by Coo Planning, has a simple composition which sandwiches each room between an inside and an outside court.

House in Asahiku is built in a residential area characterized by the traditional Osaka’s row-houses.

The compact building faces a narrow road with a simple facade: an horizontal panel with just a black door to mark the entrance.

Beyond this stark facade, the house – designed to maximize the natural light – consists of three volumes sandwiched between two voids, the entrance and an outside courtyard. In the middle of this two spaces, a living room, kitchen, master bedroom and children’s room are located: in this way the architects created a bright double-height interior, cladded with soft wooden materials, while still providing the occupants with a sense of privacy and they maintained a feeling of openness despite the house dense location.
