A new design for New York by Frank Gehry looks a little like a ship with tall sails. It is the new nine storey, all glazed building which will form the headquarters of IAC/InterActiveCorp, a group of internet companies operating in the tourist industry (including Expedia, Hotels.com, Hotwire.com, Citysearch and Ticketmaster) lead by e-commerce guru Barry Diller.
The complex (15,000 square meters to hold 500 employees), to be built on West Side Highway between 18th and 19th street, could be ready as soon as early 2006.
The key element is glass, here used in a radically different way, etched with a white pattern that helps reduce energy costs.
