Bilbao, Moneo to design Deusto library

Strange fate for Spanish architect Rafael Moneo, who, from one end of the planet to another keeps finding himself alongside the “lively” sculpture/architecture of Canadian fellow architect, Frank Gehry.

In Los Angeles, “his” Cathedral of our Lady of the Angels – which opens in September – is reflected in the stainless steel of Gehry’s Disney Hall.

Now, in Bilbao, the only Spanish architect to have received the Pritzker Prize has been appointed by the University of Deusto for the design of their new library, just down the road from the Guggenheim. The design has yet to appear but what is certain is that the Abandoibarra library will be a functional building with clean lines
