“As far as the architecture is concerned”, underlined the jury, “the design is conceptually intense: the new volume, clad in steel, is a ‘machine’ for sport and for the city of Turin in general and offers itself as logical in comparison to the historical character of the adjacent Stadio: a space to be given over to the Olympics as well as for activity after the Olympics.
Minimalist in its configuration, the design has a clear, incisive structure, placed on few supports made up of four columns of steel with a three dimensional plate sitting on the supports in a gesture of simplicity. The steel will reflect the surrounding nature, the sky, the adjacent Stadio. It will provide an urban presence which comes close to the best contemporary buildings, and in time it will undoubtedly be endorsed by the city”.
