The importance of light and silence in architecture

In the heart of Milan, just steps away from the Central Station and the Palazzo della Regione, a careful renovation by StudioS Interiors has transformed a 110-square-meter three-room apartment into a luminous retreat where silence reigns. An ambitious project, where design and functionality come together to create a space that perfectly reflects the desire for harmony and comfort of its inhabitants.

The context is that of a modern and vibrant Milan, where the need to find moments of peace becomes a daily challenge. For this reason, the goal of the renovation was clear from the outset: to create an urban oasis where natural light could flood every space, while ensuring optimal acoustic insulation, essential in an apartment located on one of the busiest streets in the city, Via Galvani.

Light as the protagonist Light, as the central concept around which the project was developed, guided the reorganization of the spaces, relocating the living area to the brightest part of the house. Here, a large open space framed by generous windows welcomes sunlight at any time of day, creating a serene and welcoming atmosphere. To further enhance the warmth of the natural light, a Hungarian herringbone oak parquet was chosen, giving the floor a delicate and elegant texture. But the real innovation, which made the success of the project possible, was the introduction of Prolux Evolution windows by Oknoplast. These frames, selected for their excellent technical performance and modern design, were key to maximizing the entry of natural light, achieving up to 22% more brightness compared to traditional PVC windows due to thin profiles and large double glazing units with more glass area. The squared structure and the use of extra-light, highly transparent glass transformed the apartment into a space dominated by light, making it not only aesthetically impressive but also extremely functional.

Acoustic comfort without compromise The need for acoustic insulation, explicitly requested by the client, was solved once again thanks to the excellent performance of Oknoplast frames. The ability to customize the frames added an additional level of refinement to the project. For this apartment, two different finishes were chosen: a brushed white for the interior, in harmony with the light and minimalist color palette of the furnishings, and a solid white for the exterior, in line with the aesthetic requirements of the building’s facade. A choice that does not compromise stylistic consistency but rather enhances the design of the entire home.

Balance between classic and contemporary The apartment stands out for its perfect balance between classic elements and contemporary details. The symmetry of the window frame, accentuated by the handle positioned in the center of the reduced node - an exclusive construction feature of Oknoplast - also gives elegant and sophisticated atmospheres. A prime example is the ILLAN lamp by Luceplan, which, with its distinctive character, illuminates the living area with a touch of originality. The kitchen, crafted by Dibiesse, also reflects attention to detail and functionality: the Havana-colored lacquered doors, paired with the calacatta gold marble-effect porcelain top, lend timeless elegance to the space, while the smoked glass table adds visual depth and a refined contrast with the other surfaces. The project, after all, is distinguished by meticulous attention to every detail. The bathrooms, covered with Porcelanosa materials, offer an experience of discreet luxury, while the custom-made furniture, designed by JRK Design and Novamobili, optimizes the spaces without ever sacrificing aesthetic quality. Even the introduction of flush doors maintains a clean and minimalist aesthetic, contributing to the creation of an elegant, functional, and orderly environment. Every choice was made to create a home that fully reflects the client’s needs: a space where contemporary design merges with everyday functionality, all wrapped in a warm and relaxing atmosphere.
