Can you design a cloud? Reinterpreting or translating the lightness, suspension and rarefaction of atmospheric phenomena into a project – be it architecture or design – is undoubtedly an arduous challenge, but one that the best designers have tackled with sometimes surprising results. Suspended volumes, mobile and evanescent walls, archetypal forms, hybrid materials... are some of the strategies that a variety of designers have adopted to do this. This vision also inspired the designer for the modular sofa system of the historic Cantori brand. Manzoni's pencil drew soft elements, light and compact in shape like soft clouds, which alternate in graceful and attractive solutions. Supporting the rounded seats and backrests is a slender T-shaped metal structure, which emphasises the idea of suspension of the volumes. of the seats.
The lightness of a cloud in the living room
The sofa designed by Maurizio Manzoni for Cantori combines a metal frame and soft, compactly shaped elements like fluffy clouds, which alternate in graceful and attractive solutions.
Cloud consists of two upholstered systems of different lengths and shapes, plus a pouf. Combined together they create novel compositional versions that play with volumes, signs and colours. The structure and design make it suitable for various elegant and refined architectural environments, and with appropriate upholstery and finishes, also for outdoors. The metal, which supports the soft surfaces as load-bearing columns, represents for Cantori the joining icon in its long history and is still a strong presence in its creations, as a protagonist, of the new furnishing proposals. Cloud is a new piece in the complex mosaic that makes up the "Cantori vision": an attitude – exquisitely Made in Italy – capable of combining craftsmanship and new industrial techniques, innovation and tradition.
