Marble meets water

At the Salone del Mobile 2023, held in Milan from 17 to 23 April 2023, antoniolupi presented its first complete collections for the living and sleeping area. The brand continues on a path consistent with its elegant and essential style, presenting various new products for the bathroom. These include the new Flow and Street washbasins. Can the force and fluidity of water mould marble and create organic shapes? This is the challenge that designer Paolo Ulian faces with the Flow washbasin, creating a symbiotic relationship between machine and processed material, where the boundary between one and the other is lost to create new and unexplored formal balances. "The Flow washbasin is not a normal washbasin," says Andrea Lupi, CEO of antoniolupi. "It is an experimental object, which falls into the category of marble washbasins". Ulian emphasises the 'spontaneous' behaviour of water-jet CNC machines, which are usually used to process stone materials. These tools tend to create irregular curvilinear waves in relief that can ideally resemble the frayed effect of a fabric pleat. The designer reverses the perspective according to which this is seen as a production flaw to be avoided, and turns it into an original and virtuous workmanship. Thanks to this operation, three or more washbasins of different diameters can be obtained from a single block of marble (one inside the other), unlike traditional workmanship. Each washbasin is distinguished by its own special aesthetic that makes it a unique, absolutely unrepeatable piece.

The Street modular system, designed by AL Studio, enhances an elegant, expressive and timeless material, the protagonist in antoniolupo's collections: marble. The washbasin can be declined in numerous dimensions and configurations: from the version with cabinet to the one with only the washbasin, for those who want to emphasise the material. The Street washbasin by antoniolupi is available in three variants: White Carrara, Rosso Levanto, Marquinia marble, with the possibility of being backlit.
