Architecture and contemporary challenges

Designing tomorrow's world means, first of all, finding solutions for fairer access to resources

Stimulate new cross-disciplinary dialogue to create an alternative relationship with space that is inclusive, collaborative and capable of lending perspective to existence, in response to the significant challenges presented by contemporary life. The task set out in 2012 by the European Cultural Centre (ECC) with the first edition of the exhibition “Time Space Existence” continues to develop as a respected platform for exchange and discussion on the themes of habitat and construction, giving a voice to new views on the paradigms of economic, social and environmental development that favours future sustainability.
“Time Space Existence”, which is now at its fifth edition, taking place alongside the 17th International Art Exhibition in Venice, will run until 21 November 2021, with the three locations presenting the work of 212 architects, designers and engineers, as well as photographers, sculptors and designers from 51 countries.

For the third time "Time Space Experience" hosts an entire section devoted to photography, an indispensable tool in architecture. It allows the project to be documented, but also, and perhaps above all, to reveal the construction process, the surrounding environment and the relationship of the building with the territory and the community.
The 2021 exhibition therefore includes numerous photographic projects that tell the story of architecture with different approaches, from classic documentation to more abstract visions.
A limited edition publication dedicated to the photographers part of the exhibition will be produced in collaboration with Urbanautica. The book aims to reflect on the concept of space and its possible representations.
ECC is also co-organising the third edition of the International Photography Conference - "Blurring the Lines" in collaboration with the Paris College of Art and Urbanautica. The event will take place at the end of November and aims to lay the foundations for an continuous dialogue on the relationship between education and photography and the role of the latter in the context of visual culture Ranging from conceptual representations to photos and robotics engineering, selected by internal teams dedicated to the individual disciplines, the works displayed by "Time Space Existence" present a vital and articulated view of the world, ranging from conceptual representations to models, from photographs to drawings, from videos to sculptures, and even large-scale site-specific installations, all offering visions and ideas in response to the most significant challenges of our present times, such as climate change, mass migration, our relationship with water, and rapid urbanization.
The key theme of the exhibition is the leadership role that architecture can potentially fill in raising awareness on the living conditions of displaced communities and discriminated groups and minorities, offering solutions for fairer access to resources.
