Luminous comfort and flexibility for a newsroom in Berlin

The SL720SL lamps by Performance iN Lighting follow the dynamic character of the taz Berlin newspaper's workspaces.

Openness, flexibility and transparency are the values that the German newspaper taz Berlin wants to convey through the architecture of its new headquarters in the very central Friedrichstrasse. The building, designed by Swiss studio E2A, is inspired by early 20th century Russian constructivist architecture, in particular the "Shabolovka" radio tower in Moscow. Thanks to the reticular beam system on the facade, it is possible to free the interior spaces from the structure's encumbrance, allowing spans of up to 13 metres. The offices can thus be set up with great freedom, following the changing needs of contemporary work, in which "flexibility" is no longer an option but a concept at the heart of its organisation. In order to respond to the vocation of the spaces, the lighting design – designed by the PHA studio – does not include fixed fixtures, neither on the wall nor on the ceiling, and has floor lamps to be positioned in correspondence with the operative workstations.

The ideal solution to guarantee the best performance and optimal lighting comfort is the SL720SL series of lamps supplied by Performance iN Lighting, in the L and XL versions. A workplace such as the editorial office of a newspaper often imposes tight operating rhythms and conditions of great digital visual stress. Lighting plays a key role in improving journalists' well-being and concentration. The SL720SL floor lamps comply with DIN EN 12464-1 for lighting in the workplace, ensuring correct glare limitation, and promote visual comfort thanks to the microprism diffusers that allow homogeneous diffusion and high light uniformity. The double emission of light, direct and indirect, can be varied independently thanks to a control placed on each luminaire so that the single user can autonomously modify the part of direct light falling on the work surface; while the indirect component is controlled at a general level thanks to the predisposition to DALI dimming that allows to vary the lighting in order to provide the optimal light for the well-being of the workers.
