Dehui tea house

In one of the last remaining hutongs in central Beijing, a tea house designed by Space Modification Unit rises like a peaceful oasis in the middle of the busy streets.

Designed by Space Modification Unit, Dehui tea space is located in one of Beijing’s remaining central hutong neighborhoods. It sits in contrast to the busy surroundings, between delivery service hubs and delivery tricycles. The facade frames the view inward to intimate spaces for contemplation: referencing the circle, as symbol of harmony, fulfilment and oneness in Chinese culture, the design offers a mindful approach. The open spaces are defined by white linen, a zen scape of white pebble stone and plants. The intimate atmosphere encourages for gentle conversation and tea appreciation, while a generous circulation passage links all functions and doubles up as gallery for temporary exhibitions.
