Located on the debris of a demolished former military building in Chorzów, Poland, Activity Zone takes shape as a multifunctional public park formally detailed by organic modules, as well as by a varied vegetative and color palette. Polish firm SLAS Architekci completed this play space as the first phase of the regeneration and integration of Silesian University into the urban fabric of Chorzów.

Activity Zone, this is the name of the park, thus sets itself up as a direct result of the difficult starting site: the concrete platform of the area is locally drilled to accommodate the existing trees on the site-all of which have been preserved-and to create different forms of flora. Interspersed with these green rooms then follows an extensive program that includes a student recreation area, children's games, a fitness area, and individually designed street furniture. To enhance the sensory experience, the platform is enhanced with a rich palette of colors, textures and scents, creating a vibrant garden in the midst of the neglected area.
While initially aimed at young students, the multifunctional public park is open to users of all age groups, inviting proper integration of the Silesian University academic community with local residents and the surrounding nature. Being part of a post-military, wooded and neglected area, Activity Zone brings life back to Chorzów by attracting frequent visits, gradually transforming an abandoned place into a safe park.
