The Coop is a sustainable smart home for chickens

Developed by the namesake Austin-based startup and designed by Bould Design, this chicken coop is a little gem of IoT ingenuity.

Austin-based startup COOP has developed a connected chicken coop that brings “comfort and convenience” to both owners and chickens alike. The project was co-developed with Bould Design, a design studio best known for its work on the Nest Thermostat and the Eero Mesh WiFi System.

The COOP sports an IoT camera that lets owners check on the chickens from their living room or anywhere in the world. The main coop door is also remote-controlled and can be scheduled to open only at certain times. Moreover, a hatch system in the back of the stilt house makes it easy to retrieve eggs with minimal disturbance to the feathered occupants.

The idea behind the project is to make raising chickens in a backyard fun, easy, and engaging. “The gray scalloped roof and sidewalls bring a subtle reference to the ubiquitous corrugated steel shed as well as structure to the rotationally molded components,” says the company. “The front door, eggbox, and feeders are rendered in a lively coral color delivering a vivid contrast against the charcoal front and back facades.”

The Coop can be preordered for $1995 and will ship in the summer.
