The Hotel St. Martin in Rome was inaugurated in 2021 as part of the Omnia Hotels group. The building was involved in a redevelopment project of a disused office complex located between the National Central Library and Piazza Indipendenza, not so far from Roma Termini railway station.
The building is constantly exposed to noise pollution because of its strategic location and its position in a very busy spot in the Roman capital. Therefore, this was one of the main challenges Studio Ceccaroli – author of the project along with Studio Curti – faced. “Our architectural design studio has specialized in hotel industry for 25 years now. I have to say that a conversion of a building into hotel use always hides challenges and compromises in order to achieve the final goal”, Marcello Ceccaroli explains, founding architect of the studio that bears his name.
“We started in the case of the Hotel St. Martin in Rome from the idea of creating a structure that could contain as many rooms of 4-star standard as possible, taking into account the narrow and long building structure at the end of the block facing the library in Castro Pretorio. We were asked – in order to meet the great demand for conference space in this area of the city – to create in the basement, with no openings, an area that could hold at least 100 guests. I think the excellent success the hotel is having justifies all the efforts put into achieving the final goal.”
The issue of acoustic and energy efficiency was faced by collaborating with Schüco PWS Italia, choosing windows with reduced view sections made of Schüco LivIng PVC, which lowered the sound by 48 decibels. “The majority of the hotel rooms face the street, so it was necessary to achieve a sound reduction that met hotel standards,” Marcello Ceccaroli concludes.
“Our studio often uses this type of product because we are very familiar with the excellent technical and acoustic characteristics of Schüco PWS Italia PVC window and door systems, and we had no doubts in our final choice.”
