Heco, the latest lighting design developed by the Japanese studio Nendo for Flos, was all ready to be presented in March in Frankfurt, if the Light+Building fair had not been postposed until this coming September.
The lamp, which carries the design on paper into the actual space, is based on a rather simple idea: a barely-there metal frame that is made to seem intentionally folded or bent under the weight of a frosted glass sphere.

“There are already so many outdoor lights to choose from that can pleasantly and easily be used for large exterior spaces by hotels and resorts,” Oki Sato states as he explains the birth of the lamp, “but for us it seemed there was a need for something that could be used in limited and restricted urban spaces, such as narrow apartment terraces and balconies. That is why we tried to make the dimensions of the lamp as compact as possible and positioned the light source very close to the table top”.
