Renault EZ-Flex is an electric delivery van for city centers

The French carmaker wants to solve the last-mile problem for delivery vehicles with a solution that's both sustainable and compact.

French car manufacturer Renault is trying to solve the last-mile problem for delivery vehicles with its new “EZ-Flex”. The electric van is 3.86m long and 1.65m wide, a size compact enough to access car parks. Thanks to its boxy design, with a height of 1.88m, and a slimmed down cockpit, though, the van still has a load capacity of 3 cubic meters, which is unheard of in a vehicle this small. EV-Flex offers a range of 150km, more than enough for a full day of deliveries in the small radius of a city center. Moreover, the van packs many sensors to track geolocation, mileage, use of openings, speed, stops and many more variables, meaning that delivery companies will be able to integrate a lot of new datapoints into their system to further optimize and automate their processes. The first batch of EZ-Flex vehicles will hit the roads of some selected European cities soon, as part of a first on-the-road experiment that will last about two years.
