Three years ago, Toyota launched its Mobility Unlimited Challenge, open to innovative tech projects that radically rethink how people with mobility problems get around. The five finalists have been unveiled: each one gets $500k for developing their products. From hybrid exoskeletons to shared vehicles, most of them don’t even feature a wheelchair in strict terms. In 2020 a winner will be nominated and get further $1 million prize.
