The current temporary Molteni&C space at 245-249 Brompton Road will be redesigned by Vincent Van Duysen to become London’s outpost for the Giussano manufacturer: 700 square metres on two floors that continue the restyling project of the brand’s stores. In fact, last April, the refurbishment of the Corso Europa store, in Milan, was an important step in this process. In late September, the London Design Festival 2017 was also an opportunity to visit the Brompton Road showroom, which hosted an exhibition where the docufilm Amare Gio Ponti was shown alongside an interesting selection of furnishings by Gio Ponti with Kvadrat textiles, taken from the Kvadrat/Raf Simons collections and chosen by Van Duysen himself.
Some of the upholstery selected by Molteni&C include the new Ria – the latest textile to become part of the Kvadrat/Raf Simons collections – which evokes the use that Pointillism made of soft, nuanced colours to create light and depth, by interweaving two shades of yarn with a rich weft on a contrasting base colour to create an organic, almost floral effect.
