After vinyls and cassettes, CDs are back? FiiO launches a retro portable player

The audio manufacturer introduced the DM13, a discman-style portable player with updated features like USB-C charging and a Bluetooth connection.

Chinese audio device manufacturer FiiO has launched a new portable compact disc player with a classic design and modern audio connectivity features.
The device’s minimal design reminds of a boxier version of a Sony Discman, with a flair that speaks to the heart of nostalgic millennials.

The FiiO player can read CDs on the go and send the sound to Bluetooth headphones, of course. Still, it also packs a headphone jack, SPDIF, and USB audio connectivity, which makes it a good option for home audio systems. On top of that, the internal battery can be completely bypassed when the device is connected to a power source, which is useful in avoiding degrading the 8-hour battery life.
On top of playing CDs, the FiiO DM-13 can also reproduce MP3, FLAC, WAV, AAC, and WMA audio files burned onto a CD-R.

In recent years, we have witnessed the great return of vinyl and a limited but very trendy resurgence of the audiocassette. The compact disc was, according to many, just a transitional technology between analogue and digital, actually still widespread in some parts of the world, but which at the beginning of the millennium was swept away first by mp3 players such as the iPod and then by music streaming, on Spotify and other platforms. Is it his time for a comeback? Certainly that of Fiio, which produces some of the best music file players on the market, is a nice exercise in style, but one that could also usher in a change of trend.
