Villa Antinori di Monte Aguglioni is one of the most renowned properties in the Tuscan countryside, not only for its beauty but also because it belonged to the family of Francesco del Giocondo, husband of Lisa Gherardini, the Tuscan noblewoman portrayed by Leonardo da Vinci in the early 1500s, none other than the Mona Lisa. Additionally, it seems that the villa was initially built as a castle for the Counts Codolingi on the remains of the home of the famous Florentine jurist Baldo d’Aguglione, the “Villain of Aguglione,” who condemned Dante Alighieri to exile.
The 2,800 square meter villa is now for sale for 18 million euros. With 300,000 square meters of parkland, the main villa—accessed by a classic cypress-lined avenue designed by the famous landscape architect Cecil Pinsent, who also worked on the garden project—features numerous outbuildings, and agricultural buildings, a swimming pool, a tennis court, and even a private chapel. A double staircase leads to the entrance, which opens to spacious and elegant living rooms, kitchens, 14 bedrooms including one with a panoramic veranda, 15 bathrooms, a library, a gym, and a large terrace with views of the Florence plain.
