Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) has unveiled its design for a high-rise office and retail tower in Miami’s Brickell neighborhood, Florida. The project – called 848 Brickell – has been informed by the local climate, with a focus on the inhabitants’ well-being. Because of that the 11 and 12 floors will house fitness centers, cafés, collaboration areas, and conference spaces, sunk in a lush garden.

The 51-story tower responds to the city’s growing demand for high-end office space, introducing over 750,000 square feet of office space, retail, and parking. The tower features an exposed structural system, with angled structural elements that dramatically raise the tower above two big outdoor terraces, with sports courts, work areas, and wellness lounges. Panoramic terraces on the north and south facades provide additional outdoor private spaces, to nourish the connection with the landscape.
