Sabine Marcelis has just created the most beautiful Twingo ever

To celebrate the 30th anniversary, the Dutch designer crafted a special art version of the iconic 1993 Twingo with see-through panels, diffused light, and an electric drivetrain. It's just too bad you can't drive it.

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Twingo, Renault teamed up with Sabine Marcelis to “breathe new life” into the first iconic model of the ubiquitous utility car.
Marcelis approached the project by leveraging her stylistic signature. The result is a semi-transparent exterior that plays with see-through materials and diffused lighting, bringing the old Twingo design into the future.
Renault built the one-of-a-kind celebration car by retrofitting it with an electric drivetrain. That allowed Marcelis to rethink the entire front of the vehicle by adding additional lighting in place of the grille. “The collaboration with Renault began with an invitation to rethink Twingo as part of its 30th-anniversary celebrations”, said Marcelis. “It was a fantastic opportunity, and a new field of exploration for me, as I'd never designed a car before. Working on such an iconic and popular car was a real challenge, especially given the scale of the project. It was an opportunity to create something truly innovative and memorable.”

Inside, Marcelis contrasted the milky white of the outside shell with an explosion of red. Almost every element, from the seats and headliner to the sun visor, is tinted in a shade of the color. As a steering wheel, the designer picked a single, solid disc of see-through plastic devoid of the usual spokes. It won’t probably be very functional, but it’s one of many details that elevates the aesthetics of this unique art car.
