World’s first 3D printed mosque will be in Dubai, still no word on who will build it

Dubai, which has set out to become the 3D-printing capital of the world, is plan to construct the first mosque printed with this technology. In 2018, in fact, the city launched the “3D Printing Strategy” to aim by 2030 to reach the threshold of 25% of new UAE buildings to be 3D-printed.

Made from a concrete mix, the building will accommodate 600 worshippers and cover 2,000 square meters over two floors. “[3D-printing is] a new and innovative technology that can potentially save time and resources compared to traditional building methods,” said Ali Mohammad Alhalyan Alsuwaidi, head of engineering at the Dubai Government’s Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department (IACAD).

The construction works are planned to begin by the end of year and are expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2025.
