Peter Zumthor’s major exhibition of maquettes in Austria

On the occasion of its 10th anniversary, the Werkraum Haus – designed in 2013 by Peter Zumthor in Andelsbuch in Bregenzerwald, Austria – is showing an expansive exhibition curated by the Finnish architect Hannele Grönlund, in collaboration with Peter Zumthor.

Over 700 square meters of space, inside and outside, were exposed about forty architectural models of the Atelier Peter Zumthor, including some made specifically for the exhibition and others that have never been shown to the public before.

Zumthor’s modes are the most important tool with which the great architect designs his buildings, and they are so interesting and representative precisely because they embody a compositional attitude inspired by the quality of the materials and the visual power, making the materials, the construction process and the form come together in an inseparable whole. Just like the Werkraum Haus, these models are synonymous with a fundamental symbiosis between architecture and craftsmanship.
