Zaha Hadid Architects has unveiled the new Science Center in the Jurong Lake District of Singapore. Expected to open in 2027, the 52,460 square meters complex aims to make science, technology, engineering, and mathematics more accessible, thanks to interactive experiences, amenities, and educational programs.

The project – which seems to float above the surrounding parkland – is composed of five interlocking rectangular volumes, melting with the natural landscape of Singapore’s Jurong Lake Gardens, and features a number of indoor, outdoor, and rooftop spaces for learning. Courtyards and gardens offer a strategic view of the lake and lead from the metro station toward the pagoda within the Chinese Garden.

In addition to facilities for visitors, administrative offices, archives, and service areas, the Science Centre will house a new observatory, the Digital Fabrication Lab (with incubator programs to nurture entrepreneurial aspirations), a Makerspace (for tests and research), exhibition galleries, interactive labs, and event spaces. The Children’s Gallery will have a double area and include its own interactive outdoor zone.

Working together ZHA, Atelier Ten, and Architects 61 aim to achieve the BCA Green Mark Platinum Super Low Energy certification, using sustainable design principles and strategies to improve the energy performance of the building.
