It is called “Cupola Fantastica” the competition for children launched during the lockdown by the Fondazione Architetti Firenze. The theme is that of the dome of Santa Maria in Fiore by Filippo Brunelleschi, built in 1420, and which this year celebrates its 600th anniversary.
The Foundation has received over 370 drawings from all over the world, and on September 26th, they will inaugurate the event “Monumenti Reali.” The event celebrates the reopening to the public of Giovanni Michelucci’s Palazzina Reale at Santa Maria Novella station, after the closure imposed by the health emergency. All the drawings received will be projected on Michelucci’s building’s external facade until 10 October, the event’s closing day.
The inauguration will be attended by the jury that assessed the drawings of “Cupola Fantastica”: the Town Planning and Education Councillors of the City of Florence Cecilia Del Re and Sara Funaro; Vincenzo Vaccaro, Councillor of the Opera di Santa Maria del Fiore, and the illustrator Andrea Orani, as well as representatives of Ordine and Fondazione Architetti Firenze.
The competition is part of “Architetture Fantastiche”, a project by the Fondazione Architetti Firenze, winner of the Uia Golden Cubes Award, launched by the National Council of Architects, Planners, Landscape Architects and Conservators, and promoted by the International Union of Architects. The prize is dedicated to initiatives to promote the culture of architecture aimed at young people.
