New Tamagotchi uses egg-based material

Twenty-eight years after its debut, Japanese toy company Bandai has introduced a new Tamagotchi model with a twist: its shell is unlike anything seen before. While this version lacks some of the advanced features found in the Tamagotchi Uni, it stays true to the classic experience of caring for a virtual pet. You still feed it, play games with it, and look after its health and hygiene. But what sets the new Original Tamagotchi Celebration Egg apart is its unique design. It has a tan shell with dark green accents, but more notably, it’s made from 30% recycled eggshells.

This innovation is hard to miss, especially given that the name “Tamagotchi” itself comes from combining the Japanese words “tamago” (egg) and “uotchi” (watch). Fans will appreciate the nod to the toy’s iconic egg shape. Staying true to its commitment to a greener future, Bandai has also paired this model with packaging made from recycled paper.
