Six Anish Kapoor sculptures on display in the UK’s largest cathedral

Titled “Monadic Singularity”, the show integrates the sculptor’s artworks into the Liverpool Cathedral’s architecture, aiming to inspire awe and reflection on existence and spirituality.

After over 40 years since his show at the Walker Art Gallery in 1983, the British artist Anish Kapoor returns to Liverpool with the free exhibition Monadic Singularities, his first in a UK cathedral.

Running from August 10th to September 15th, the show marks the 100th anniversary of the Liverpool Cathedral and displays six Kapoor’s sculptures from the past 25 years in its gothic setting, including the UK debut of his massive piece Sectional Body Preparing for Monadic Singularity

Staged across various sacred spaces – from the sculpture Untitled in the Main Space to works like Imminence and the chromatic Non-Object in the Lady Chapel and Ambulatory – the exhibition ushers visitors into a spiritual and existential journey, contemplating key moments in life (birth, marriage and death) by integrating the artist’s material-driven art within the religious allure of the gothic cathedral and creating a deep relationship between body and spirit, materiality and immateriality.
