The silver alloy coin features an abstract outline of the crown of a tree on one face and a column on another alongside the Portuguese coat of arms and Eduardo Souto de Moura's name.
The design by Álvaro Siza continues the Banco de Portugal’s “Portuguese Architecture” series. Last year a similar coin – designed by Souto de Moura – was released in honour of Siza's own contribution to archietecture.
The pair of Pritzer Prize winning architects, who are alumni of the Porto School of Architecture, are among the country's most acclaimed exports.
Siza's coin depicts elevations of his Igreja de Santa Maria in Marco de Canavese.
The Banco de Portugal will put the coin into circulation on 12 December 2018.
