During the 57th Venice Biennale and the centenary of Ettore Sottsass birth, “Dialogo” is an exhibition that brings together more than 60 pieces. This unprecedented show invites visitors to explore the essence of Sottsass’s work through a relevant selection of sculptures specifically designed for the Il Sestante Gallery.

The pieces, all coming from private collections, reveal the forerunner of Sottsass who, through his research on form, color and matter, has developed a unique plastic vocabulary. From the raw technique of lava to tantra pieces close to pop art, from terracotta to enamel, from smooth to rough, this staging of exceptional pieces reflects the wealth, diversity and versatility of the designer Italian. Thus a decade of visual and technical explorations are revealed in the famous “negozio Olivetti” designed by Carlo Scarpa, in which each work of Sottssas takes on its full architectural dimension. And if this retrospective allows both to question the boundary between art and design and to question the status of the work, it is also an opportunity to rediscover a high place of Venetian architecture.
